As temperatures drop, your car faces tougher conditions that can quickly turn minor issues into major problems. Preparing your vehicle for winter isn’t just about comfort—it’s about safety, reliability, and avoiding breakdowns when you need your car most.
Here’s your go-to Winter Car Checklist to keep things running smoothly:
1. Battery & Alternator Health
Cold weather can weaken your battery’s performance. Have your battery and alternator tested to make sure they’re charging properly. A weak battery can leave you stranded on frosty mornings.
2. Tyres & Tread
Check tyre tread depth and pressure regularly—cold air causes pressure to drop. Consider switching to winter or all-season tyres for better grip and shorter stopping distances on icy roads.
3. Antifreeze & Coolant
Ensure your coolant is topped up and has the correct antifreeze concentration. This prevents your engine from freezing in sub-zero temperatures and overheating once it warms up.
4. Wipers & Screenwash
Visibility is everything in winter. Replace worn wiper blades and use winter-grade screen wash that won’t freeze. Keep an ice scraper in your car just in case.
5. Lights & Heating System
Test all exterior and interior lights. Darker days mean you’ll rely on them more. Also, make sure your heating system and demisters are working effectively for comfort and safety.
6. Brakes & Suspension
Slippery conditions demand responsive brakes and stable handling. A quick winter brake check can prevent dangerous skidding and uneven wear.
At Autocare Repair, we’re offering free battery and alternator health checks this winter. Keep your car safe, efficient, and ready for the road—whatever the weather brings.
